Gnomes are so stinking cute, and people get really creative with them.

Though this is a post about Valentine’s sewing projects, I had to mention these Valentine’s Day no-sew gnome kits from HomeSweetGnome on Etsy. The colors are so joyful, and these little guys have so much personality!

If you’re looking for a quick project to do with your kids, but they’re not quite ready to learn to sew, this might be the project for you.

If you love gnomes and love to make quilt blocks, I would give Leanne Anderson’s Valentine Gnome Mug Rug Kit a go. This is a great project to practice your applique skills and work on learning how to add bias binding to a project. Did you catch the upside-down heart the gnome’s beard makes? So sweet!

Valentine’s Day Embroidery/Cross Stitch Projects

Embroidery and Cross stitch is a little sewing-adjacent, but I’m going to count it in this list of Valentine’s sewing projects because you’re literally stitching with a needle. Yes, it’s by hand and it’s a slower to make project, but these are no less beautiful. Here’s some great options.

Floral embroidery has been making a comeback the past few years, and I love finding kits like this “Love” floral embroidery kit from ForeverlinCrafts. This is an embroidery project you’ll want on the wall, and the colors on this are bright and springy. This is a year-round kind of Valentine’s Day project!

For a lovely modern looking cross stitch design that sings February 14th, this geometric heart cross stitch kit from VelvetPonyDesign is perfect. I love the angles and how all the colors come together on this one. It’d be so sweet in a frame or as a pillow.

If you love more traditional cross-stitch patterns, you can’t beat Brenda Gervais’ Valentine’s Cross Stitch pattern collection from KingslandNeedleArt. The country style shines through, and these look like cross stitch patterns that would work up fairly quickly.

If you’ve never sewn felt before, you’re missing out. It’s so versatile, and you can make absurdly cute things in almost no time.

Case in point: this Valentine’s Day felt cookie PDF pattern from GingerSweet Crafts. You get a chance to add some fun hand embroidery with the conversation hearts.

If you’re more into confections, I love the look of the Oneoftheflock’s Valentine’s Day felt cookie kit. I have visions of chocolate covered strawberries and Valentine’s cake pops with these. That you have all the felt and supplies you need in this kit make this even easier to make.

In truth I have a soft spot for felt kits like these. I cut my teeth hand sewing when I was young putting together a couple Bucilla Christmas stockings duded up with all kinds of felt decorations covered with sequins and beads.

There’s a lot of different styles in both of these patterns. I could easily see how you could make a ton of 1 type as a relatively quick handmade Valentine. On the other hand, you could make a collection for your own decorations.

We around here at Elizabeth Made This are all about cute felt food. Check out my Fabulous Felt Christmas Cookies to see what I’m talking about. The Linzer cookies from this collection would be perfect for Valentine’s Day!

The Grandaddy of all Valentine’s Day sewing projects: Valentine’s Day quilt patterns and kits

I have a cousin who makes AMAZING modern quilts. They’re bright, they’re graphic, and they are just plain cool. And while I’m primarily a garment sewist, I can’t help but fall in love with these Valentine’s Day quilt patterns and kits.

Even though quilt kits are admittedly on the pricier side of projects, what’s brilliant about them is that they eliminate the trouble of picking colors that go together. That and having all your fabrics all there ready to go for you, no extra shopping trip.

So it is with all of these kits. If you are a quilter or quilting curious, any of these would be a great project to dig into.
